Equipping staff to manage challenging situations safely

PMVA training equips participants with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to safely manage challenging situations in healthcare and care settings. It is designed to protect both service users and staff while maintaining a safe, therapeutic working environment.

Rooted in evidence-based techniques and aligned with current UK regulations and NHS guidance, the programme covers everything from early warning recognition and de-escalation through to post-incident support and recovery.

Regulatory alignment: This programme is developed in line with NHS Employers, the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) standards, and current Health & Safety at Work legislation — ensuring compliance for CQC-registered and NHS settings.

Types and triggers of aggression, underpinning psychological factors, and structured risk assessment approaches.

Module 3

Communication & De-escalation

Verbal and non-verbal de-escalation strategies, active listening, and evidence-based conflict resolution techniques.

Realistic simulations drawn from frontline healthcare settings. Participants apply skills from all previous modules under trainer observation and receive structured individual feedback to consolidate learning.

Delivery Method

All PMVA training is delivered face-to-face by experienced practitioners, combining interactive instruction with practical application.

Interactive Workshops

Facilitated group sessions that encourage discussion, shared learning, and real-world application of theory to familiar workplace scenarios.

Practical Exercises

Hands-on practice of de-escalation techniques and — where appropriate — safe physical intervention in a controlled, supervised environment.

Scenario-Based Learning

Structured role-play situations replicate real incidents across mental health, social care, and acute settings, building participant confidence before they are tested in practice.

Certificate of Completion

Participants who successfully complete all modules receive a certificate recognised across UK healthcare and care settings, suitable for CQC inspection evidence.
